Search parameters

Text-based searches in eGenome can be performed by using the quick search and region search utilities. All text-based searching in eGenome searches the same data set, which is currently all element names, database identifiers, and large-insert clones in our database. This includes the following:

Type Example
Gene symbols CDC42
Marker names D1S228
Aliases AFM196xb4
UniGene clusters Hs.171596
GenBank accession #s Z16835
RHdb IDs RH15177
Genome Database IDs gdb:4560693
dbSTS IDs 823
SNP IDs rs34567
SNP IDs aliases WIAF-768
Clone names RP11-316M1

Text-based searches in eGenome are literal, single-word searches only; there are no complex or boolean search capabilities. Entries with more than one word will be ignored. Use the wildcard character @ for truncated word searches. For example, entering D1S228 will find only D1S228, but D1S22@ will find D1S228 as well as D1S22, D1S229, and D1S2214, among others. However, truncations without a wildcard such as D1S22 will find only D1S22 but not D1S228.
